Bor-Thekera (Garcinia Pedunculata) ,The tree has a fluted trunk with short spreading branches. Leaves are lanceolate with prominent midribs. Male flowers are light green in sparsely flowered panicles. The female flowers are solitary. The roundish fruit has a diameter ranging between 8 and 12 cm.
It has a juicy interior with edible arils a tangy fruit which is an essential part of Assamese kitchen . The thekera are generally cut into slices and sun-dried. These dried pieces are used as souring agents in traditional fish curries. Thekera pieces soaked in water makes excellent cooling drink in summers. The raw thekera can be made into chutneys. It helps in digestion n keeps the stomach cool.
