Being an agricultural community, Indians have numerous cows in their homes for many centuries. They raise cows not just for its milk, but sometimes for its manure. When the number of cows increased, their dung became a problem to deal. As a result, the idea of using cow dung compost in gardening and agriculture has emerged.
In its raw form cow dung can harm the plant with its high rate of ammonia and bacteria such as E.Coli. By composting, one can eliminate these threats and make the cow manure fertiliser more plant-friendly. Cow manure is digested grass and grain what the animal had eaten. It is nutrient-rich and consists of organic material, nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium.
By mixing the compost, one can increase the nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, and other nutrients to the soil without hurting the plant. There will be many beneficial bacteria in the compost that helps to dissolve nutrients to the plant. Another important aspect is that compost reduces the smell of cow manure. There are steps to follow to reduce the smell. Compost can also be used as a conditioner to the soil as the compost is moist.
Some people advocate not to use raw manure for making compost. They recommend to dry them before making compost. The main idea behind this is that after drying the common bacteria and all other dangerous pathogens will be destroyed.
