ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore found the answer to this question and it is Arka Suprabhath, a new mango hybrid. The grafted saplings are available now and it gives a new hope to the mango cultivators in Kerala. Arka Suprabhath, which is not very tall, is a seasonal fruit bearer. It is a new double cross hybrid of Arka Amrapali (Dashehari x Neelam) and Arka Anmol (Alphonso x Janardhan Pasand).

Arka Suprabhath Mango Specialties

⦁ From the fourth year of planting the graft, you can harvest around 40 kilograms of mango from one tree.
⦁ A mango weighs about 250 grams.
⦁ Mango’s shape is like that of Alphonso.
⦁ The pulp is orange and firm, not spongy as the ones seen in some mangoes.
⦁ Can be stored at normal temperature for up to 10 days.
⦁ Suitable for processing as well to be used as fruit.

Arka Suprabhath Mango Benefits

⦁ Planting time is shorter than other varieties.
⦁ 160 grafts can be planted at a spacing of 5×5 m per acre.
⦁ Mango contain up to 70% pulp.
⦁ 100 g of pulp contains 8.35 mg of carotenoids and 9.91 mg of flavonoids.
