Eugenia candolleana, or rainforest plum, is a tree native from Atlantic rainforest of Brazil, known locally by the Portuguese names cambuí roxo or murtinha. It is quite rare in the wild, and has seen limited use in landscaping for its bright green foliage and purple-black fruits.

A shrubby tree growing to 10-12ft. Flowers are born in large clusters, with fruits ripening several weeks later. There are both purple and red fruited forms. A medium sized tree 3–6 m tall and with a rounded or conical canopy up to 2 m wide, bark reddish brown peeling off naturally exposing reddish trunk. Leaves rusty-brown in the beginning turning yellow and then deep dark green later, in opposite pairs, with smooth leathery texture, smooth edges, and the apex curved downwards.

Fruits round or slightly elongated berry, up to 20 wide and 25 mm long; with thin purple-black skin, pulp wet, firm, whitish, 3–5 mm thick, is edible, moderately sweet, with an aroma similar to (but less intense than) that of the jaboticaba

Rain forest plum thrives best in full sunlight and requires good irrigation during the flowering and fruiting seasons. It can be propagated from seeds. The seeds, however, loose viability soon and therefore should be planted within 20 days of extraction. The tree is easy to grow and starts bearing fruits after two years

  • The fruit are consumed fresh or made into jams.
  • In the folk medicine of the region of Sergipe, the infusion of leaves has been used for the treatment of pain and fever.
  • The essential oil distilled from the leaves (green 0.14% by weight) contains isomers of guaiol and cadinol, δ-elemene and viridiflorene.
  • They are rich in vitamin E, have more lutein than an avocado (for eye health), as well as containing zinc, folate, calcium, potassium and magnesium

Frequently Asked Questions
I received a damaged product/plant

Reach out to us via email at support@greensofkerala.com or give us a call at +91 9746 999 125.

For a seamless replacement process, we recommend capturing a video or picture while unboxing the parcel. This not only expedites the resolution but also aids us in comprehending the specific types of damages caused by our courier vendors.

Plant dullness or leaf drop due to transit

Occasionally, plants may experience a temporary dullness or leaf drop during transportation due to factors such as insufficient sunlight and water.

Kindly follow our plant care instructions and closely monitor its condition for the next 15-20 days. This period will allow the plant to rejuvenate and regain its strength, returning to a healthy state.

Right time to re-plant after delivery

Immediate repotting or re-planting of delivered plants can induce stress on them.

We recommend maintaining the plants in the original bag upon receipt and consistently watering them for the initial two weeks. Additionally, place the plants in an area with 50% sunlight during this period. After the plants have acclimated to your climate and achieved stability, you may proceed to repot them into larger containers or directly into the field.

Why Cash on Delivery not available?

We regret to inform you that we do not support cash on delivery for plant orders. This decision is based on the fact that in the event of order rejection, it takes a minimum of 15 days for the plants to return to the nursery. This delay poses a risk of permanent damage or loss to the plants.
