Kungkuni (Baccaurea odoratissima) is a small to medium sized tree from the Phyllanthaceae family. It is probably the best looking, most colourful of the Baccaurea’s, this amazing fruit has red skin which opens to reveal bright blue coloured pulp. The fruits are around the size of a cherry and have a sour-sweet flavour. Grows wild in the Bornean jungles where it is sometime collected for market sales. The tree prefers tropical environment for better growth.
Cultivation
Plants grow in the wild on basalt, yellow sandy clay and blackish sandstone soils.
Plants can flower fruit through most of the year
A dioecious species, both male and female forms need to be grown if fruit and seed are required.
