Cempedak fruit is an evergreen, medium-sized, mid-canopy, branched, monoecious tree!!
Artocarpus integer, commonly known as chempedak or cempedak, is a species of tree in the family Moraceae in the same genus as breadfruit and jackfruit. It is native to southeast Asia. Cempedak is an important crop in Malaysia and is also popularly cultivated in southern Thailand and parts of Indonesia, and has the potential to be utilized in other areas.Cempedak is currently limited in range to south-east Asia, with some trees in Australia and Hawaii. Cempedak trees are large, evergreen trees. They can grow to a height of 20 m, although most reach only a dozen meters. The trees are monoecious, with male and female flowers growing on the same tree. There are many varieties, although few are named. The vigorously growing tree can bear heavy crops of fruit once or twice a year.
Cempedak is similar to jackfruit in many ways, however, cempedak are smaller than jackfruit, and the peduncle is thinner. The male inflorescence of cempedak is pale green to yellow compared to the dark green of jackfruit. The cempedak flesh is darker yellow and juicier when ripe. Cempedak fruit is an evergreen, medium–sized, mid-canopy, branched, monoecious tree that grows about 10–30 m tall. The plant is found growing in secondary forests and locally abundant in primary lowland rainforest, often on wet hillsides. The plant thrives on humus-enriched, loamy, acidic and well-drained soils, but prefers a fairly high water table. However, it does best in deep alluvial soils of open texture. It can also survive periodic water-logging. Stem has white sap; brown stiff, reflexed hairs 3 mm long cover the twigs, stipules and leaves.
MAINTENANCE OF THE PLANTATION
Applying 200 g of NPK 18 Complex twice yearly, helps the trees thrive and produce large number of fruits. Plants should not be allowed to have branches up to a height of 1 m from ground level. Although seeds germinate easily, budlings are known to be better planting materials. Cempedak grows well in water-draining, sandy loam soil. It can be grown in any region where jackfruit trees grow, provided the soil is rich in organic matter and moderately low in pH. Availability of ample sunlight and rain is suitable for growth and ensures a high level of fruit production. Cempedak trees can grow from the lowlands to an initial height of 1,300 m above sea level. But the height of the best place to grow cempedak is between 0-800 m above sea level
WEED CLEANING
At the time of plant enlargement, the grass does not have to be sprayed, simply trimmed and allowed to dry around the roots of the plant. This is quite useful as an organic fertilizer. If sprayed, plant root growth is also disrupted, as a result the plant will turn yellow. In addition, if the plants are fruitful, the risk of failing to bear fruit or fruit is sour and tasteless
HARVESTING YOUR CEMPEDAK
Harvesting cempedak fruit plants, in one ordinary fruit bunch containing 3-10 fruits. Use a pin and a puncture needle one of the top of the fruit stalk (in a clump), if the taste of hard seeds means this fruit is long enough and can be picked. Thus is the right blend of cultivation of cempedak fruit plants in order to be able to grow well and bear fruit optimally, hopefully this information can provide an initial picture in cultivating cempedak plants
